An interview tells you what they say they can do

Anyone can put on a show in an interview. Behavioural profiling cuts through the performance to reveal working style.

Insights on people profiling

Practical advice on recruitment, team fit, and getting the most from behavioural profiling.

Recruitment Blog Number 1

Why are people profiling tools transforming recruitment?

When looking for the right people to hire for a vacancy, it can be like looking for a needle in a haystack. Hundreds, sometimes thousands apply for a job role and online platforms, like Indeed and LinkedIn, have made it much easier to apply.

When it comes to trawling through all those applications to narrow down the pool of people who have applied do you use AI to help? Do you look for stand out pieces of information in a CV to help pinpoint the potential "good fit" candidates with the relevant experience? The exercise of narrowing down the potentials is very time-consuming.

In today's competitive recruitment market, finding candidates with the right qualifications isn't enough anymore. Businesses need employees that not only possess the necessary skills and experience but also those that align with the culture, values, and the specific behavioural requirements of the role and the organisation.

So, let's move beyond the CV!

The traditional methods of recruiting often heavily focus on the candidate's qualifications and experience. If they are selected for an interview, you will have whittled down the number quite considerably, but how do you know if they are truthful with their experience and their ability to undertake the role. Anyone can put on a "show" in an interview. While these all remain important aspects of the recruitment process, they only provide part of the picture.

A CV tells you what a candidate has done.

An interview tells you what a candidate says they can do.

A Pure People Profile will help you understand how a candidate is likely to communicate, perform the role, make decisions, and importantly interact within the team environment.

I remember undertaking a team profile training day with a small business in Swindon, some years ago. The bulk of the team were all relationship builders and big team players. The managing director decided she needed a salesperson to bring in new business prospects.

A chap was employed who had very impressive sales records, however when he signed a deal it was all about him. He would ring a bell to attract the attention of the others in the office. Now this behaviour is challenging at the best of times but amongst a strongly connected team it did not fit at all well. He very quickly upset the rest of the office team with his "look at me" behaviour. Not at all a team player. He was asked to leave before the probation period had been completed.

Now the reason I explain this story is that if he had been profiled before being offered the role the managing director would have seen in his profile. His behavioural style analysis would have shown he was not a good fit for the business. Sadly, this cost the small business a recruitment fee of £1,000's which was money lost. If he had been profiled before being offered the role this would have saved the business this cost and made sure that the person they recruited fitted with the company culture from the start.

So, when getting down to your final few applicants, profile them, make sure they will fit within the business and have the right behavioural style for you, it really does save time, money and lots of energy!

Pure People Profiling: Transforming Hospitality by Putting People First

The UK hospitality industry is powered by more than 3 million people — bar staff, chefs, housekeepers, managers, cleaners, hosts and countless others who keep the country's hotels, restaurants, pubs and venues running every single day. Yet despite being one of the nation's largest workforces, hospitality teams are often misunderstood, undervalued, or placed in roles that don't match their natural strengths.

At Pure People Profiling, we believe that has to change.

We were founded on a simple but powerful idea: treat people properly, invest & inspire them. A business is only as good as its people and team. When you understand who your people are — their personality, their motivations, their natural behaviours — you can recruit better, manage better, inspire better and ultimately deliver better results.

Why People Profiling Matters in Hospitality

Hospitality is a people-first industry. Guests don't remember the POS system you use or the brands you serve — they remember how your team made them feel.

That's why getting the right people into the right roles is essential.

Profiling helps you:

  • Recruit with confidence — Instead of hiring based on gut feeling or rushed interviews, profiling helps you identify candidates with the right attitude, energy, and personality fit for your culture and your customers.
  • Build stronger teams — When you understand how people think and communicate, you can manage them more effectively and reduce friction, misunderstandings and turnover.
  • Inspire and motivate your staff — People feel valued when they're understood. Profiling gives owners and line managers the insight to support, encourage and develop their teams in ways that actually work.
  • Increase efficiency and performance — When people are in roles that suit their natural strengths, they perform better — and they enjoy their work more.
  • Drive loyalty and long-term results — Investing in people isn't just good ethics; it's good business. Happy teams deliver better service, stay longer and contribute more.

The Truth About Training in Hospitality

Most businesses proudly claim they have "the best training programmes" or that they "look after their staff better than anyone else".

But let's be honest — in many cases, that simply isn't true.

Training often becomes a tick-box exercise. Staff are rushed through generic modules that don't reflect their personality, their learning style or the realities of their role. Managers are left guessing how to motivate individuals who all respond differently.

Pure People Profiling changes that.

We don't just hand you a report and walk away. We help you understand what the results mean — how to use them to build happier, more efficient, more resilient teams.

Why Pure People Profiling Exists

Pure People Profiling was born from a genuine passion for people. After years in hospitality, we saw the same problems repeating:

  • High staff turnover
  • Poor role fit
  • Managers struggling to motivate their teams
  • Staff feeling undervalued or misunderstood
  • Poor attitude
  • Businesses losing money because the wrong people were in the wrong jobs

We knew there had to be a better way.

Our mission is simple: Help hospitality businesses recruit, develop and retain people by understanding who they truly are.

Because when you invest in people — properly, consistently, and with intention — everything improves: service, culture, loyalty, profitability and guest experience.

The Future of Hospitality Starts With People

Hospitality is an industry built on human connection. Technology can support it, but it can't replace the warmth, delivering beyond guest expectations, intuition and personality of a great team.

If the UK wants a stronger, more sustainable hospitality sector, we must look after the people who keep it alive. That means:

  • Hiring smarter
  • Training with purpose
  • Inspire and create a "can do" attitude
  • Managing with empathy
  • Investing in development
  • Valuing personality as much as skill

Pure People Profiling is here to help you do exactly that.
